This Summer, the Outreach Team at Cardiff University are launching the Gŵyl eCampws Festival’. This two-week, online festival is designed to support students to prepare for university, developing skills and showing the benefits of higher education, and will be delivered through an online community of festival-goers, university students, staff and educators.

There are 5 strands within the festival:

  • The Sutton Trust project works with 16-17-year-olds interested in Medicine, offering tailored advice for medical applications and interviews whilst also providing insight into the course.
  • Step Up is our flagship project for 16-17-year-olds from Wales. The main Festival activity is based around group research and an academic conference led by our Outreach Tutors, Jack and Poppy.
  • Insights is for students holding an offer to study at Cardiff University in September. This programme is led by Rhys and Rifhat from Student Enterprise Team. Festival-goers will work in groups to solve a challenge, developing essential skills to help them prepare for university life.
  • Discovery is for young people with autism spectrum conditions. The main activity will use Minecraft to teach students about university life
  • The First Campus Team is running a Festival project specifically for young carers from Wales.
Most strands will involve group work in a 'flipped' learning style a bit like problem-based learning where the students are given an issue/topic and then work together in groups to research a topic and present their findings.

In addition to the main programme activities detailed above, students will be given general information, advice and guidance to support their journey to higher education.  The programme is delivered with the support of current students and university tutors.
The Festival also includes a variety of social activities for students to join, such as a live theatre stream night, virtual quizzes, online yoga and fitness classes, podcasts, vlogs, virtual tours of Cardiff and the university campus, and festival links to music and comedy sessions.
All activities will be scheduled at specific times, but once they have been broadcast ‘live’ they will remain accessible for festival-goers to come back to or watch at a more convenient time depending on personal circumstances.

You can find further details about each strand by viewing the Festival programme.

Specific support is also offered to parents/guardians. We will be uploading details of how to join our private Facebook Group to this page soon. In the meantime, please feel free to contact us with any specific questions and follow this link to a parent/guardian support page here.

The interactive element of the programme will be delivered through Aula, the CU Outreach learning experience platform.
